Liberty Square is a major public plaza and civic complex in the Zhongzheng District of Taipei, Taiwan, built around the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall and opened in the late 20th century. It functions as a formal memorial site and a large open civic space in central Taipei.
The complex includes the central memorial building with its distinctive white facade and blue octagonal roof, flanked by two large performance halls and connected by a broad paved plaza. The southern entrance is marked by a large ceremonial arch and the forecourt is used for concerts, official ceremonies, and public gatherings. The memorial hall features a large interior chamber with a statue and exhibits related to Chiang Kai-shek.
The memorial hall was constructed as a shrine to Chiang Kai-shek and opened to the public around 1980; the surrounding performance halls and plaza were developed as part of the same civic complex in the following years. The site was renamed and recharacterized in the 21st century to emphasize its civic and cultural role.
