Léré Lake | TravelDojo

Léré Lake is a freshwater lake in the Mayo-Kebbi Ouest region of western Chad, located beside the town of Léré. It is an important local waterbody for surrounding villages.

The lake is used mainly by nearby communities for fishing and small-boat transport, with shoreline settlements and seasonal changes in water level influencing access. Recreational or tourist infrastructure is minimal; activities are largely local and informal.

The lake has long served local livelihoods rather than formal commercial uses. Over time local use patterns have adjusted with seasonal rainfall and agricultural needs.

The lake lies in western Chad near the border with Cameroon, adjacent to the town of Léré in Mayo-Kebbi Ouest.

Local access: Sits immediately adjacent to the town of Léré and is used by local communities for fishing and small-scale water transport.
