Legoland Billund is a family theme park in Billund, Denmark, established in 1968 close to the original LEGO factory and Billund Airport. It was created by the LEGO Group and has grown into an international attraction focused on rides and large-scale models made from LEGO bricks.
A highlight is Miniland, a large indoor-outdoor model area made from millions of bricks that recreates cities and landmarks at a fixed scale, plus a mix of themed zones offering rides and interactive play for different ages. The park combines gentle family rides with a selection of coasters and seasonal shows, and typically operates from spring through autumn with peak crowds in summer.
Legoland was developed by the LEGO company to provide a hands-on entertainment and brand experience and has been expanded repeatedly to add attractions and themed lands. It remains a primary visitor draw for families in the region and a showcase for LEGO model-building skills.
The park sits on the outskirts of Billund town in central Jutland, adjacent to Billund Airport and a short drive from the town centre, making it easily accessible by car and local transfers.
- Location and origin: Located next to Billund town and within easy reach of Billund Airport, the park was opened in 1968 and remains closely linked to the LEGO company origins.
- Best time to visit: Miniland uses millions of bricks and is the park's most visited exhibition; quieter mornings on weekdays outside school holidays give the easiest access.
What to See #
- Miniland: Miniland is a central, permanent display of city and worldscapes built from millions of LEGO bricks at a scale of 1:20, featuring moving elements and illuminated night scenes.
- Themed areas and rides: The park contains themed areas and family attractions combining gentle rides, interactive play zones and seasonal live shows, alongside roller coasters and water rides for older visitors.
How to Get to Legoland Billund #
Legoland sits at the edge of Billund and is the closest major attraction to Billund Airport - a short taxi or shuttle ride from the airport (only a few minutes by car). Local hotel and resort shuttles and seasonal buses also run between Billund town, the airport and the park.
If driving from the nearest regional hub, Billund is about a 30-minute drive west from Vejle (roughly 30 km); follow the E45 south/west toward the Billund exits and then local roads into Billund. Car parking is available at the park.
Tips for Visiting Legoland Billund #
- Buy timed tickets online and visit on a weekday or outside Danish school holidays to avoid the biggest queues; entry lines and ride queues are heaviest mid-afternoon.
- Arrive at park opening and head first to Miniland and the park's flagship rides-these draw large crowds later in the day, so early visits let you see the most detail with shorter waits.
- Combine your visit with LEGO House in Billund town (separate attraction a short drive from the park) and book both in advance if you plan to visit both on the same day.
Best Time to Visit Legoland Billund #
Best in summer when the park is fully active and outdoor attractions are most enjoyable, but expect peak crowds.
