Access is limited compared with publicly serviced islands; the island has a country estate and managed grounds rather than extensive tourist infrastructure. It sits in the coastal waters between the larger islands of Funen and the Jutland peninsula.
Fænø lies off the west coast of Funen near the town of Middelfart, in the narrow maritime channel known as the Little Belt.
