Lazarus Island Island

Lazarus Island (Pulau Sekijang Bendera) is one of Singapore’s Southern Islands, located just south of the main island. It is a small, largely undeveloped island known for sandy shorelines and day-trip recreation.

A narrow causeway links Lazarus Island to neighbouring St John’s Island, and visitors typically reach it via the public ferry to St John’s followed by a short walk. The island offers sandy beaches, shallow swimming areas and informal picnic spots; its shores are the main attraction rather than built facilities.

Historically the island has had local Malay names and has been part of the southern island group used intermittently for quarantine, recreation and light infrastructure on nearby larger islands; Lazarus itself has seen minimal permanent development.

Situated within Singapore’s Southern Islands cluster, Lazarus Island lies off the southern coast of Singapore and is accessed from the Marina South Pier ferry services that call at St John’s Island first.

• How to get there: Reached via the ferry service that calls at St John’s Island, followed by a short walk across a causeway that links the two islands.
• Visitor facilities: No permanent commercial facilities on the island, so visitors should bring water and supplies for day trips and picnics.

Take the public ferry from Marina South Pier to St John’s Island; from St John’s a short walk/causeway leads to Lazarus Island. Some private boat operators also run direct charters from Marina South Pier or Sentosa.

• Take the regular ferry to St John's Island from Marina South Pier and walk the short causeway to Lazarus - the walk is scenic and quicker than waiting for a dedicated boat.
• Bring a picnic and sun protection; there are very limited facilities and no food outlets on Lazarus.
• Go early in the day (before 11am) to find the island's best secluded coves before weekend crowds arrive.
