Lawachara National Park is a protected forest in Kamalganj Upazila, Moulvibazar District, Sylhet Division, Bangladesh. The park covers approximately 1,250 hectares and preserves one of the region’s last sizeable patches of semi-evergreen tropical forest.

Trails and short boardwalks give access to forest interior habitats and lookout points; the park contains marked walking paths and areas used for long-term ecological research. Wildlife highlights include the western hoolock gibbon and a mix of primates and forest birds, with best wildlife activity in early morning. Facilities are basic but include a research/visitor station and interpretive information at trailheads.

The area was declared a national park in 1996 under the Bangladesh Forest Department to protect remnant rainforest and associated wildlife. Since designation it has been used for conservation, ecological research, and limited eco-tourism while surrounding land remains largely agricultural and tea plantations.

The park sits in northeastern Bangladesh’s Sylhet Division within Moulvibazar District. It lies inland from the Sylhet plain in a landscape of tea estates and hills; the nearest well-known town is Sreemangal in the same district.

  • Designation date: Gazetted as a national park in 1996 and managed for both conservation and scientific research.
  • Key wildlife: Home to the western hoolock gibbon, one of the park's key conservation species; sightings are best along the main forest trails early morning.
