How to Get to Lata Mountain
To reach Tau and access trails to Lata Mountain, travel via Pago Pago International Airport (Pago Pago) and take an inter‑island flight to Tau (the main Manuʻa airstrip). Flights are limited and scheduled; there is also occasional ferry service but it is irregular. From the island’s villages, local guides or village contacts can arrange transport and route guidance to trailheads.
Tips for Visiting Lata Mountain
- Inter‑island flights from Pago Pago (Samoa Faleolo to Tau) are infrequent - book flights and accommodation in Manuʻa well ahead of time.
- Hire a local guide from Tau village - paths can be faint and rain can make ridgelines slippery.
- Bring mosquito protection and waterproof layers; trails quickly move from exposed ridgeline to steamy cloud-forest.
