Lantau Peak is a prominent mountain on Lantau Island in Hong Kong with an elevation of 934 metres, making it the territory’s second-highest summit. It forms a distinctive high ridge on the eastern side of Lantau Island and is part of the island’s protected country parkland.
Trails to the summit are popular with hikers, especially for sunrise views; the route is steep in sections and passes through exposed rocky terrain and grassland. The peak is often combined with other sections of the Lantau Trail for multi-stage hikes and is a noted vantage point for views across the South China Sea and of the Hong Kong International Airport area.
The mountain is within Lantau’s protected areas and is managed for both conservation and recreation, with marked trails and mountain access points from nearby villages and country-park entrances.
Lantau Peak sits on Lantau Island in the Islands District and is accessible from villages such as Ngong Ping and Mui Wo by public transport and trailheads; the island lies to the southwest of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon.

How to Get to Lantau Peak #
Lantau Peak is reached from Ngong Ping on Lantau Island. Take the MTR to Tung Chung, then bus 23 or the Ngong Ping cable car to Ngong Ping Village and follow the marked Lantau Trail sections to the summit. The hike is steep and takes several hours depending on route.
