Lan Su Chinese Garden

Lan Su Chinese Garden is a Suzhou-style classical Chinese garden located in downtown Portland’s Old Town/Chinatown district. It was constructed as a cultural exchange between Portland and Suzhou and combines traditional Chinese garden design with exhibition and program spaces.

The garden’s highlights include a central pond and rockwork, winding paths between pavilions and courtyards, and a teahouse that hosts demonstrations and small cultural events. The design follows the principles of classical private gardens from Suzhou and emphasizes borrowed views, water features and stone arrangements.

The garden was developed in partnership with Suzhou artisans and organizations to create an urban cultural site and has been operated as a public garden and event venue since its opening. Maintenance focuses on preserving traditional planting patterns, stonework and architectural details.

The garden sits in downtown Portland in the Old Town/Chinatown area, surrounded by pedestrian streets and adjacent to the Pearl District creative and commercial neighbourhood.
