How to Get to Lambaré
Lambaré is a suburban city immediately south of Asunción; most international arrivals come via Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU) in Luque and then continue by taxi, rideshare or local bus into Lambaré. There is no passenger rail service - long-distance travel in Paraguay is dominated by coach buses using the Terminal de Ómnibus de Asunción.
Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU): The main international gateway for Asunción, located in Luque about 15-20 km from Lambaré. Taxis and app-based cars (Uber) are the most common: expect ~60,000-120,000 PYG and 20-35 minutes to central Lambaré depending on traffic. Pre-booked private transfers are available for a higher fixed fee; local buses/taxis from the airport to downtown Asunción are cheaper but slower and may require a change.
Guaraní International Airport (AGT): Located at Ciudad del Este, much farther east (roughly 320-350 km from Asunción). If you arrive here, most travellers take a taxi to the Ciudad del Este bus terminal (10-30 minutes, ~10,000-30,000 PYG) and then an intercity bus to Asunción (approximately 5.5-7 hours, typical fare ~70,000-120,000 PYG). From Asunción’s terminal you can transfer to a short taxi or local bus to reach Lambaré (10-30 minutes).
Train: Paraguay does not have regular intercity passenger rail services; there is no practical train option for reaching Lambaré.
Bus: Long-distance buses arrive at the Terminal de Ómnibus de Asunción (TOA). From there, local buses or a short taxi ride (10-25 minutes) will get you into Lambaré. Local city buses (colectivos) run frequently between Asunción and Lambaré along main corridors; expect single fares in the low thousands of PYG (typical urban fare ranges around ~2,000-3,500 PYG) and trip times of 10-30 minutes depending on origin and traffic.
How to Get Around Lambaré
Getting around Lambaré is straightforward if you rely on local buses and short taxi or rideshare hops into Asunción. For most visitors, a mix of colectivo buses for cheap trips and occasional Uber/taxi for convenience works best; walking is fine for short local errands but not for longer cross-city travel.
- Local buses (colectivos) (~2,000-3,500 PYG) - The backbone of travel between Lambaré and Asunción. Colectivos run on fixed routes and are inexpensive, with single fares typically in the low thousands of PYG. They can be crowded and run on a cash basis; learn the route names or ask drivers where they stop in Lambaré.
- Taxis (~10,000-80,000 PYG (depending on distance)) - Metered taxis and street taxis are widely available; short trips inside Lambaré are cheap but prices rise with distance and when leaving the city toward the airport or Asunción centre. Use taxis for late-night or luggage-heavy travel; agree a price or insist on the meter for clarity.
- Rideshare (Uber / app cars) (~20,000-100,000 PYG) - Uber and other app-based services operate in Asunción and are useful for predictable fares and card payments. They tend to be more comfortable than street taxis and good for airport transfers into Lambaré. Surge pricing can increase costs during peak times or bad weather.
- Intercity / long-distance buses (~30,000-120,000 PYG (varies by route)) - Long-distance coaches run from the Terminal de Ómnibus de Asunción to cities across Paraguay (including Ciudad del Este) and are comfortable for longer journeys. Buy tickets at company counters or online; travel times and fares vary by destination - e.g., Asunción-Ciudad del Este is commonly 5.5-7 hours and costs in the tens of thousands to low hundreds of thousands of PYG.
- Motorbike taxis (moto-taxi) (~5,000-20,000 PYG) - In some neighbourhoods moto-taxis offer quick, cheap point-to-point trips and can weave through traffic, making them useful for very short journeys. They're less comfortable and carry higher safety risk than a car - use caution and wear a helmet when available.
- Walking - Lambaré's central areas are walkable for short errands, markets and local sights; pavements can be uneven and shade limited, so plan for sun/heat and wear comfortable shoes.
