How to Get to Areguá#
Areguá lies a short drive from Asunción and is most easily reached by car or frequent minibuses from Asunción. There is no regular passenger rail service; buses and shared taxis (colectivos) are the local mainstays.
Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU): Asunción’s Silvio Pettirossi (ASU) is the main international gateway for Areguá. From ASU you can take a taxi or bus to Asunción city centre and then a short regional bus to Areguá; airport-to-city taxi rides take about 30-40 minutes depending on traffic.
Local small airstrips: There are no scheduled commercial flights into Areguá itself; domestic air travel in Paraguay is limited, so road transfers from Asunción are the usual route.
Bus / Colectivo: Areguá is well connected to Asunción by regular minibuses and regional buses leaving from central Asunción termini; buses take roughly 30-50 minutes depending on traffic and cost a few thousand Paraguayan guaraní (G). From Asunción’s bus terminals look for services bound for Areguá or Ypacaraí.
Train: Paraguay has no active intercity passenger rail service to Areguá; road transport is the primary option.

Areguá is most easily reached from Asunción by bus, colectivo or car. Once there, walk the centre and use local minibuses or taxis for short trips.
- Minibus / Colectivo from Asunción (PYG small (few thousand)) - Frequent minibuses and colectivos run from Asunción to Areguá from main terminals; they are the most cost-effective and common way to travel. Journeys typically take around 30-50 minutes depending on traffic-bring local currency (guaraní) for fares and expect modest prices.
- Taxi / Remis (PYG variable) - Taxis or remis services provide door-to-door transfers from Asunción or the airport; they are faster and more comfortable but more expensive than colectivos. Agree the fare in advance or insist on the meter where available.
- Car / Driving (Fuel cost varies) - Driving from Asunción along well-used regional roads is the most flexible option and takes under an hour depending on traffic. Parking in Areguá’s tourist areas can fill up on weekends, so arrive early during peak times.
- Local bus (within Areguá area) (PYG small) - Local buses and short-distance services connect neighbourhoods and nearby lakeside towns like Ypacaraí. They are inexpensive but can be irregular-useful for short hops once in town.
- Walking - Areguá’s centre, lakeside promenade and craft markets are compact and best enjoyed on foot. Walking is the preferred way to experience the town’s streets and shops.

Shopping in Areguá#
