How to Get to Lalibela#
Lalibela is served by a small domestic airport (LLI) with daily connections to Addis Ababa; most visitors fly in and take a short taxi or hotel transfer into town. Overland options exist but are long and slower, so flying is the practical choice for limited time.
Lalibela Airport (LLI): Lalibela Airport is the town’s airport with regular scheduled flights from Addis Ababa (Bole). Flights take about 1 hour 10 minutes; expect domestic fares typically in the range USD 100-USD 250 one way depending on season and carrier (Ethiopian Airlines and others). Taxis or hotel pickups from the small airport to Lalibela town take 5-15 minutes and commonly cost ~ETB 150-400 or are included with hotel bookings.
Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD): International visitors normally fly into Addis Ababa and then connect on a domestic flight to Lalibela. Flight time ADD→LLI is about 1 hour 10 minutes; allow extra time for connections at Addis. Overland travel from Addis to Lalibela is possible but takes 10-12+ hours by bus or private car.
Train: There is no railway service to Lalibela.
Bus / Road: Long‑distance buses from Addis Ababa and other regional towns reach Lalibela (night buses are common).
