Lake Zug (Zugersee) is a mid-sized Swiss lake located between the cantons of Zug, Schwyz and Lucerne, with the city of Zug on its northwestern shore. It is known for calm waters and a mix of small towns, farmland and rolling hills along its shores.

The lakeside promenades, the historic centre of Zug and waterside parks are the main visitor draws, along with short boat trips that connect towns around the lake. The surrounding hills provide vantage points for panoramic views of the lake framed by the Alps.

Historically the lake has long supported local transport, fishing and settlement along its shores; towns such as Zug and Cham grew with the regional economy. Modern use combines commuter connections, recreation and protected natural sections along the shoreline.

The lake sits in north-central Switzerland, with the canton of Zug on the northwest shore and Schwyz and Lucerne to the south and east. It is easily reached from the city of Zug and regional rail connections link the lakeside towns to larger Swiss transport hubs.

• Zug (town): The city of Zug on the lake’s northwestern shore hosts a compact historic centre and a lakeside promenade with views across the water.
• Cham and Arth: Cham and Arth are notable shoreline towns that serve as common access points and offer boat connections during the warmer months.

Lake Zug lies immediately beside the town of Zug. From Zürich Hauptbahnhof take SBB InterRegio/InterCity or regional trains to Zug (journey about 25-30 minutes); from Zug station the lakeshore and main promenades are a 5-15 minute walk depending on which lakeside area you head to.

By car Zug is about 25-35 km from Zurich via the A4 motorway (drive time ~30-40 minutes in normal traffic); there are public parking areas near the waterfront if you drive.

• Start your visit from Zug railway station and walk straight to the lakeside pier-the main lakeside promenade is only minutes from the station and is the easiest way to begin a lake circuit.
• Take one of the scheduled Zugersee boat services from the main pier to see different shores without driving; short cruises give good orientation and save time compared with circling by car.
• Visit on a weekday early morning or late afternoon to avoid weekend day-trippers and to catch calmer water and nicer light for photos and shoreline views.
