Lake Segara Anak

Lake Segara Anak is the large crater lake that occupies the caldera of Mount Rinjani on the island of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. The lake lies at high elevation within an active volcanic system and is a central feature of the Rinjani National Park area.

Hikers and climbers access the lake as part of multi-day treks to the Rinjani summit; routes commonly approach from the Senaru or Sembalun valleys. The lake contains a prominent volcanic cone and nearby hot springs are visited by trekkers; camping areas around the caldera rim offer panoramic views of the crater.

The caldera and lake formed through past explosive eruptions of Mount Rinjani; subsequent volcanic activity built an inner cone that emerges from the water. The site remains volcanically active and is monitored by Indonesian geological agencies.

The lake sits within the Mount Rinjani caldera on Lombok island; the nearest trailheads are in the foothill villages (Senaru and Sembalun) at the base of the mountain.
