Lake Ritsa Lake

Lake Ritsa is a mountain lake in the northwestern Caucasus, set among forested slopes and limestone peaks. It is noted for clear water, surrounding waterfalls and accessible picnic and viewpoint areas.

The lake is a popular local excursion destination with shoreline paths, viewpoints and boat trips available from nearby roads. Facilities are modest and most visits are day trips from coastal towns.

Lake Ritsa formed through glacial and geological processes typical of highland lakes in the Greater Caucasus and has long been valued for its scenic setting. The area is part of a protected nature reserve.

Geographically the lake lies in the highlands of Abkhazia in the western Caucasus range; the nearest coastal towns are on the Black Sea coast to the west and the site is reached by mountain roads from those towns.
