Lake Prokljan Lake

Lake Prokljan is a brackish coastal lake in Šibenik-Knin County in Croatia, connected to the Adriatic Sea through the Krka River estuary. It is a shallow, protected waterbody that mixes freshwater from the Krka with seawater, creating brackish conditions.

The lake shoreline supports fishing, oyster and mussel cultivation, and boat traffic serving nearby Skradin and Šibenik; small marinas and waterfront restaurants operate along the shore. The lake forms part of the wider Krka river estuary landscape and is often visited on river and coastal boat tours.

Prokljan developed as a drowned river mouth and estuarine basin rather than by human construction, and its ecology reflects the mix of river and marine influences. Water levels and salinity vary with river discharge and tidal exchange through the connecting channel.

Geographically the lake lies immediately east of the town of Šibenik and adjacent to the mouth of the Krka River near Skradin on Croatia’s central Dalmatian coast.
