Lake Osveya is a freshwater lake in the northern part of Belarus, in Vitebsk Region near the border with the Russian Federation. It occupies a rural, low-density landscape and is part of the lake-rich territory of northern Belarus.
The lake is used locally for fishing and simple recreational outings; the shoreline is largely natural and surrounded by forest and agricultural land. It is one of several larger lakes in the region and follows the common glacial origin of lakes in northern Belarus.
Lake Osveya formed as a postglacial/tectono-glacial basin and has long been used by surrounding settlements for fisheries and freshwater resources. There has been no single large historic construction or urban development directly on the lake in modern times.
Geographically it sits in Vitebsk Region in northern Belarus, close to the international border with Russia, within a landscape of mixed forest, wetlands and small agricultural settlements.
