Lake Mégantic is a freshwater lake in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada, with the town of Lac-Mégantic located on its shore. The lake and town form a local recreational hub in the Eastern Townships.

The shoreline provides opportunities for boating, walking and waterfront activities, and the town’s waterfront is a focal point for visitors. Regional parks and trails in the surrounding hills extend recreational options beyond the immediate lakeside.

The town of Lac-Mégantic developed around the lake; in July 2013 the town experienced a catastrophic train derailment and explosion that caused substantial loss of life and major damage, followed by years of recovery and rebuilding. The event is a significant part of the town’s recent history and memory.

Geographically the lake lies in southeastern Quebec near the Maine border, within the Eastern Townships and served by regional roads linking to larger centres in southern Quebec.
