Lake Bütgenbach Monastery

Lake Bütgenbach is an artificial reservoir in eastern Belgium, located near the municipality of Bütgenbach in Wallonia. It is a well-known local leisure lake used for swimming, sailing and lakeside recreation.

Beaches, campgrounds and boat rentals operate around the lake in summer, and the water body is used for non-motorised and small motor boat activities. The shoreline infrastructure and nearby services make it a regional weekend destination.

The lake was formed when a dam was constructed on a local river in the first half of the 20th century to create a reservoir for water management and recreational use; the adjoining village of Bütgenbach grew as the local service centre.

It sits in the High Fens-Eifel region of eastern Belgium, in the province of Liège, close to the town of Bütgenbach and within a hilly, forested landscape near the German and Luxembourg borders.
