Lake Burdur is a large saline lake in southwest Turkey, located in Burdur Province in a closed tectonic basin. It is an ecologically important inland wetland noted for its bird populations.

The lake supports colonies and seasonal concentrations of waterbirds and is designated as an Important Bird Area; it has attracted ornithological interest for decades. In recent years observers have noted fluctuations in water level and area, which affect bird habitat and local land use.

The lake basin has long-standing human settlement around its edges and has been used for fisheries and salt-extraction activities at times. Changes in inflow and regional water use have altered the lake’s extent over the 20th and 21st centuries.

Lake Burdur lies within Burdur Province, with the provincial capital Burdur located near the lake’s shoreline; the surrounding landscape is a mix of steppe and agricultural land.

Lake Burdur lies adjacent to the city of Burdur in southwestern Turkey. The lake shore is a short drive from Burdur city centre (typically under 10 km on local roads); Burdur is served by intercity buses from regional centres such as Antalya and Denizli, and from Burdur you can take a local taxi or drive to the lakeside viewpoints and nature areas.

• Go at dawn or dusk when waterbird activity is highest - Lake Burdur is a regional hotspot for waders and waterfowl, so those times give the best birdwatching.
• Approach from Burdur city and the main lakeside roads where parking and simple observation points are available rather than trying to access the interior of the lake; local hides/observation points near the shore offer safer, established viewing.
• Plan around the migration seasons (spring and autumn) if your main interest is birdlife, and contact local birding groups or the provincial conservation office for current access notes and recommended observation points.
