About Lake Alūksne

Lake Alūksne is a lake in northeastern Latvia adjacent to the town of Alūksne in the Vidzeme region. The town and its shoreline form the principal settlement and access point on the lake.

The lake contains several islands, one of which holds the ruins of a medieval castle that are a visible local landmark and attract shoreline visitors. The waterfront in the town of Alūksne includes promenades, recreational boating and facilities oriented to residents and day visitors.

The lake sits within Alūksne municipality in northeastern Latvia, close to the national border with Estonia and surrounded by mixed forest and low hills.
