How to Get to Ladysmith, British Columbia

Ladysmith, on southeastern Vancouver Island, is most easily reached via Nanaimo (seaplane, YCD) or by ferry from the Vancouver area. Vancouver International Airport (YVR) plus a ferry crossing to Nanaimo is a common route; once on the island most travel to Ladysmith is by road.

By Air

Nanaimo Harbour (Harbour Air / floatplanes to Nanaimo): Seaplane services (Harbour Air / Saltspring Air) operate between Vancouver harbour and Nanaimo; flight time is about 20-30 minutes. From Nanaimo Harbour to Ladysmith it’s a 20-30 minute drive (≈20 km); taxi or shuttle options are available in Nanaimo.

Nanaimo Airport (YCD): Scheduled flights (mainly to Vancouver and other island points). Driving time from YCD to Ladysmith is about 25-35 minutes (≈30 km). Taxis and car rentals are available at YCD; expect a short transfer time into town.

Vancouver International Airport (YVR): Many visitors fly into YVR and continue by car/ferry or seaplane.
