La Visite National Park

La Visite National Park is a protected area in Haiti’s Ouest department that conserves montane forest in the island’s highlands, forming part of the greater mountainous landscape southeast of the capital.

The park contains montane and cloud-forest habitats at higher elevations with remnant native vegetation and habitat for endemic species; it is valued for biodiversity conservation rather than developed visitor infrastructure. Access is often via road approaches from towns on the high plateau and requires planning due to limited services and rough mountain roads.

Established to protect upland forest and watershed areas, the park is one of Haiti’s principal high-elevation reserves and has been the focus of conservation and reforestation efforts due to historical deforestation across the island. Its montane ecosystems are among the most intact natural areas remaining near Port-au-Prince.

La Visite is located in the highland massif southeast of Port-au-Prince in Haiti’s Ouest department, occupying steep terrain and ridges that form part of the island’s central mountainous backbone.
