La Tigra National Park is a protected cloud forest reserve in central Honduras, established to conserve high-elevation forest near the capital. The park protects montane cloud forest with high rainfall and persistent mist.

Trails through mossy forest and streams are the main visitor attractions, with short hikes, viewpoints and opportunities to see montane flora and birdlife. Facilities are modest and the park is commonly visited on day trips from Tegucigalpa.

The park was created to protect water catchments and native cloud forest ecosystems that supply nearby urban areas and maintain biodiversity. Management is focused on conservation, water protection and regulated visitor access.

La Tigra lies northeast of Tegucigalpa, at higher elevations in the Francisco Morazán Department, forming part of the mountainous landscape that surrounds the capital and provides a nearby natural escape.

How to Get to La Tigra National Park #

La Tigra National Park lies just north of Tegucigalpa. The usual access is by road from Tegucigalpa (a drive of roughly 30-60 minutes depending on traffic) - follow the road signs toward La Tigra/La Paz and the park entrance where parking and trailheads are located.

Many visitors use private car, taxi or tour operators from Tegucigalpa who provide direct transfers to the park entrance.

  • Start hikes in La Tigra at first light to take advantage of clearer views and the best chances to see cloud-forest birds and mammals before mid-day cloud buildup.
