Kyburg Castle is a medieval hilltop castle in the Canton of Zurich near the village of Kyburg that now operates as a museum. It is an important regional example of medieval castle architecture in Switzerland.

The site presents preserved defensive structures, a keep, courtyards and exhibition rooms that interpret the castle’s history. Visitors also use the ramparts and high points for views over the surrounding valleys and countryside.

From Zurich main station take a regional train to Winterthur (about 15-20 minutes) and then continue by local bus or taxi to Kyburg village; from the village bus stop the castle is a short walk (around 5-10 minutes). By car it is roughly 20-30 km east of central Zurich via the A1 and cantonal roads (typically a 25-35 minute drive, depending on traffic).

• Aim for a morning visit on a weekday to avoid Zurich-area weekend day-trippers; the castle-museum opens with far fewer visitors early in the day.
• Use the main entrance at Kyburg village-the castle sits above the settlement and the paved approach and visitor facilities are concentrated at the official gate, making the route straightforward.
• Take the interior museum route and climb the castle tower: the preserved medieval rooms and the tower panorama over the Glatt valley are highlights that many passers-by miss if they only view the exterior.
