Kuusisto Castle is a medieval ruin on Kuusisto island near Kaarina in Southwest Finland, founded in the 14th century and historically associated with the bishops of Turku.
On site visitors encounter low stone foundations, fragments of surviving wall and earthworks set within a small park; informational panels outline the castle’s episcopal function and later destruction. The ruins provide coastal views across the Archipelago Sea but do not include standing multi-storey structures.
Built in the 14th century as an episcopal stronghold, the castle declined in importance and was demolished by royal decree in 1528; it has remained a ruin since that demolition.
The castle sits on a small island in the Archipelago Sea near the town of Kaarina, a short distance southeast of the city of Turku in Southwest Finland.
- Origins: Constructed in the 14th century by the bishops of Turku as an episcopal stronghold, the castle later fell into royal hands and was never rebuilt after demolition.
- Demolition 1528: Demolition was ordered in 1528 by King Gustav I of Sweden, after which the structure remained a ruin and only foundations and low wall sections survive.
