Kungsträdgården is a public park in central Stockholm whose name means “The King’s Garden.” It occupies a compact block in Norrmalm immediately adjacent to the Royal Opera and major shopping streets.
The park is known for a long alley of horse-chestnut trees, public sculptures and fountains, cafés, and a regularly used event space that hosts markets, concerts and cultural festivals. The layout is compact and easy to walk, making it a common meeting point in the city center.
The site dates to the 17th century when the area served as a royal kitchen garden, later opening to the public and evolving into the present urban park. Its modern role is as a civic green space and cultural venue.
It sits in central Stockholm on Hamngatan in Norrmalm, a short walk from the Royal Palace, Sergels torg and many central hotels and shops.
