How to Get to Ksar Mosque #
From central Tunis, walk into the Medina via Bab el Bhar (the Sea Gate) and head northwest along Rue de la Kasbah towards Rue du Ksar; the mosque lies in the labyrinth within a 10-15 minute walk. Taxis and small shared minibuses (louages) can drop visitors at the Kasbah square - from there, follow local signs or ask a shopkeeper for “Mosquée du Ksar.” The area is best explored on foot; many alleys are too narrow for cars.
Tips for Visiting Ksar Mosque #
- Visit just after the noon prayer to see the mosque in use but before the late-afternoon tourist surge in the Medina.
- Enter from the narrow alleys off Rue du Ksar to avoid the busy main gate of the Medina; shoes must be removed and modest dress is required.
- Look for the carved wooden minbar and the soot-darkened stone at the mihrab - marks of centuries of candles and devotion that most visitors miss.
