Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat

Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat is the royal palace complex of the Sultanate of Yogyakarta in central Yogyakarta city on the island of Java. The kraton functions both as the Sultan’s residence and as a cultural center preserving Javanese court traditions.

The complex contains reception halls, courtyards, and museum rooms that display royal artefacts and historical objects. It hosts traditional music, dance, and ritual performances, and parts of the kraton are open to the public for tours and cultural programs.

The kraton was established in the mid-18th century by Sultan Hamengkubuwono I following the political reorganizations of central Java, and it has continued as a focal point of Javanese court culture and urban life in Yogyakarta. The palace stands within the old city center and is easily reached from central Yogyakarta.
