How to Get to Kranjska Gora#

Kranjska Gora is a mountain resort best reached by airport shuttle to Ljubljana and then by bus or private transfer, or by rail to Jesenice followed by a short bus. For flexibility and luggage, private transfers or a rental car work well.

By Air

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU): Ljubljana is the main airport for journeys to Kranjska Gora. From LJU take a shuttle or bus to Ljubljana city (about 25-30 minutes, modest fare) and then an intercity bus to Kranjska Gora (around 1.5-2.5 hours depending on route and stops, fares typically €10-€20). Private transfers and car hire are popular for the final mountain leg.

Trieste (TRS) / Klagenfurt (KLU): Airports in nearby Italy/Austria can be used; from Trieste or Klagenfurt expect a longer overland transfer (1.5-3 hours) by car or bus depending on border crossings and connections.

By Train & Bus

Train: Trains run to Jesenice, the nearest significant railhead (served from Ljubljana and Austrian lines). From Jesenice you take a bus to Kranjska Gora (about 30-45 minutes).

Bus: Direct buses link Ljubljana and Jesenice with Kranjska Gora; buses are frequent during ski season and summer. Bus travel times from Ljubljana are commonly around 1.5-2.5 hours depending on service and route.

How to Get Around Kranjska Gora#

The best approaches are Ljubljana airport + bus/transfer or rail to Jesenice + bus. For convenience with luggage or gear, use a private transfer or a rental car.

  • Intercity bus (€8-€20) - Buses run between Ljubljana and Kranjska Gora (often via Jesenice). They are straightforward and relatively inexpensive, with higher frequencies in ski and summer seasons - book in advance during peak times.
  • Train + bus (via Jesenice) (€6-€20 combined) - Take a train to Jesenice (good national and international rail links) then a connecting bus to Kranjska Gora (30-45 minutes). This is reliable when bus schedules align with train arrivals.
  • Car hire (€35-€100/day) - Driving from Ljubljana or Austrian/Italian airports gives the most flexibility for stops and luggage. Mountain roads are well maintained but can be busy in winter; winter tyres are often required.
  • Taxi / Private transfer (€80-€200 (Ljubljana→Kranjska Gora)) - Private transfers are common for ski groups and families - pricier than buses but door-to-door and useful with heavy gear or late arrivals.
  • Local buses / ski shuttles (€0-€10 per trip) - During the ski season and summer, local shuttles and resort buses link hotels, ski lifts and nearby towns; many hotels advertise free or low-cost shuttle services.
  • Walking - Kranjska Gora is compact and pedestrian-friendly; once in town you can reach lifts, shops and restaurants on foot.
