Kōzu-shima (Kozushima) is an inhabited volcanic island in the Izu Islands, administered as part of Tokyo Prefecture and located in the Philippine Sea. The island combines volcanic topography with coastal beaches and small fishing settlements.

Visitors use short hiking trails and coastal paths to reach viewpoints and the island’s summits; the highest point, Mt Tenjō, rises to about 570 meters and affords wide views of the surrounding archipelago. The coastline offers rocky shelves and small sandy coves that are popular for snorkeling and coastal walks.

The island’s economy centers on fishing and seasonal tourism, with ferry connections to other Izu islands and to the Izu Peninsula. Settlement and harbor areas are compact, and services for visitors are concentrated around the main ports.

Kōzu-shima is located within the Izu archipelago southwest of the Izu Peninsula and is one of the more remote Tokyo-administered islands in the Pacific.

  • Administrative status: Part of the Izu Islands group and administered as part of Tokyo Prefecture, the island has a volcanic origin and an inhabited village cluster with small harbors.
