Kolovesi National Park protects a lake archipelago and narrow water channels in South Savo in eastern Finland, conserving rocky islands, old-growth forest and freshwater habitat within the larger Saimaa lake system. The park is focused on wilderness values and low-impact recreation.

The park is popular for canoeing and kayaking along marked routes, short hikes, and wildlife observation in a landscape of steep granite shores and sheltered bays. Long, narrow waterways and island-dotted channels are the park’s characteristic features.

The protected area was established to conserve the lake archipelago and its associated species and habitats, with management oriented toward low-impact recreational use and habitat protection.

Kolovesi lies between the municipalities around the Saimaa region in east-central Finland, accessible from nearby towns such as Savonlinna and Enonkoski via regional roads and lake access points.

• Saimaa ringed seal: The park is one of the remaining habitats for the endangered Saimaa ringed seal, so wildlife sightings are rare and seasonal and visitors are asked to respect protected zones.

Kolovesi National Park in South Savo is best reached by road to nearby towns (for example Savonlinna or Enonkoski) and then by water - the park is primarily accessed from lakeside launch points and is ideal for boats or kayaking. Drive from Savonlinna to local parking/launch villages near the park and then continue by small boat or kayak to the park’s shorelines and short walking routes; many trailheads and interpretive sites are a short walk from designated launch/parking areas.

• Plan your visit between late spring and early autumn and aim for early mornings to paddle the park's narrow waterways - canoeing/kayaking is the best way to reach the park's quieter coves and watch for the elusive Saimaa ringed seal.
• Book gear or a guided canoe/kayak trip from nearby towns in advance and study the park's marked routes and landing rules (Metsähallitus provides maps and guidance) to avoid disturbing sensitive seal habitat.
• Stick to established routes and designated camp/kitchen sites; Kolovesi has minimal services, so confirm access points and emergency contacts before you launch onto the water.
