How to Get to Helvetinjärvi National Park

Helvetinjärvi National Park is located near the municipality of Ruovesi in Pirkanmaa, Finland. By car it’s about a 45-60 minute drive north of Tampere (roughly 40-60 km depending on the route) using regional roads; there is parking at the park entrances. Public transport is limited-check local bus timetables to Ruovesi and then arrange a taxi or a short additional transfer to the park’s trailheads.

Tips for Visiting Helvetinjärvi National Park

  • Follow the marked trail to Helvetinkolu (the narrow gorge) first thing in the morning or on a weekday - the gorge viewpoint is the park's highlight and gets busiest in the middle of the day.
  • Extend your walk beyond the main loop to the lakeshore trails for much quieter scenery; many visitors only do the short gorge circuit and miss the broader lakes and cliffs further out.
