Exploring Koh Por Waterfall#
Koh Por Waterfall is one of the prettiest cascades in Koh Kong Province, set within a jungle gorge a few hours by boat north of Koh Kong town. The falls are around 30 metres wide with a drop of some 4 metres, and reaching them is half the fun, as they are really only accessible by boat.
The wet season, June to October, sees the falls at their fullest, while the dry season exposes large boulders ideal for scrambling both above and below the cascade and opens up the various pools for swimming. Other falls in the area can be reached on foot, and it is possible to visit on a day trip or stay overnight.
How to Get to Koh Por Waterfall#
Access depends on which provincial road is closest; typically reached by road from a regional town using a hire car or local taxi. Final access may require a short walk on uneven tracks; check local conditions and the rainy-season river levels.
Tips for Visiting Koh Por Waterfall#
- Visit after the rainy season recedes for higher falls but avoid peak rains when trails may be slippery.
- Hire a local guide from the nearest town for the final, rough walk - trails can be poorly marked and river crossings unpredictable.
- Take a waterproof bag for camera gear; mist and spray are common near the plunge pool.
Best Time to Visit Koh Por Waterfall#
Best seen after the monsoon (Nov-Feb) when water is clear and trails safer.
