Ko Pha-ngan is best known for its full-moon parties, but the island’s west coast is something quite different: a wellness and nomad community centred on Sri Thanu, with yoga, healthy cafes, saunas, ecstatic dance, coworking spaces with fibre, and sunset beaches. It is Thailand’s island nomad hub, with a comfortable life for about $1,600 a month.
There is no public transport, healthcare is basic, and the island empties out a little in the rainy months. This guide covers what you need to set up for a month or more. For sights as a visitor, see the Ko Pha-ngan travel guide.
Ko Pha-ngan for Digital Nomads at a Glance#
Why Ko Pha-ngan Works for Remote Workers#
- Island life with infrastructure. Coworking spaces with fibre, cafes with good Wi-Fi, and beaches minutes away.
- A real community. Yoga, breathwork, sound healing and social events make it easy to meet people.
- Thailand’s visas. The DTV lets you stay up to 180 days per entry.
- Nature. Jungle waterfalls, viewpoints, snorkelling and boat trips to Ang Thong Marine Park.
- Easy connections. Ferries to Ko Samui (with its airport) and Ko Tao.
Who It Suits (and Who It Doesn't)#
Ko Pha-ngan suits island lovers, yoga and wellness fans, and social nomads who are happy to ride a scooter. It suits you less if you need city comforts, a hospital nearby, or quiet around full-moon weeks. For US-based teams, it is 11 to 12 hours ahead of New York.
Visas#
Since 15 September 2026, visa-free entry to Thailand is 30 days for citizens of 60 countries and territories, extendable once for 30 days. The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) gives five years of entries of up to 180 days each, extendable once in Thailand, with ฿500,000 in savings and proof of remote work. Immigration extensions are handled on Ko Samui. Your landlord must file a TM30 address notification when you arrive.

Ways to save: rent for three months or more, eat at Thai restaurants and the Thong Sala market, and buy a used scooter through a Facebook group if you are staying long.
Where to Live#
Most nomads live on the west coast between Sri Thanu and Hin Kong.
| Neighbourhood | Vibe | 1-bed / month | Best for | Getting around |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sri Thanu | The west-coast wellness and nomad hub, with yoga, healthy cafes and coworking | $450-1,000 | Nomads and yoga lovers | Scooter; songthaews |
| Hin Kong | A quieter stretch next to Sri Thanu with sunset beaches and cafes | $450-950 | Calm close to the community | Scooter |

Monthly houses and bungalows are advertised in Ko Pha-ngan housing Facebook groups and on signs along the road; book ahead for high season. Check the internet speed, whether electricity is charged at the government rate, and whether the road is passable in the rainy season.
Coworking Spaces and Cafes#
Day passes cost about ฿230 to ฿400 and monthly passes about ฿2,500 to ฿5,900. Prices below are as published or recently reported.

Sri Thanu’s cafes are full of laptops in the mornings.

Best for: A morning session
Internet and SIM Cards#
Fibre reaches most of the west coast, often 100 to 500 Mbps in coworking spaces. Power cuts happen in storms, so keep an AIS or True SIM with a large data plan as a backup.
Getting Around#
There are no public buses. Most people rent a scooter (about ฿2,500 to ฿4,000 a month); you need a licence valid in Thailand for your insurance to pay out, and the island’s hills and dirt roads cause many accidents. Songthaews and taxis are expensive. Ferries run from Thong Sala to Ko Samui (about 30 minutes to an hour), Ko Tao and the mainland at Don Sak and Surat Thani.
Weather and When to Go#
January to August is the best time, with February to April the driest and hottest. Unlike Bangkok and Chiang Mai, the Gulf islands get their heaviest rain from October to December. The burning-season smoke that affects northern Thailand does not reach the island.
Community and Meeting People#
Sri Thanu’s community is the island’s biggest draw: yoga classes, breathwork, ecstatic dance, cacao ceremonies, saunas and ice baths, beach sunsets, coworking events and island WhatsApp and Facebook groups mean you can meet people every day.
Health and Safety#
The biggest risk is scooter accidents. Drug use is common around parties and illegal; police checkpoints and raids are frequent around full moon. There are clinics and a small hospital on the island; serious cases go to Ko Samui or Surat Thani by boat. Carry health insurance that covers medical evacuation. Dengue is present.
