Khor Al Adaid (Inland Sea) is a large tidal embayment in southeastern Qatar where the sea cuts into extensive sand dune fields, creating a sheltered inland lagoon. The area is known for its striking meeting of desert and sea.

The landscape comprises sheltered lagoon waters bordered by high dunes, used for recreational dune driving, birdwatching and short coastal crossings. Visitors commonly travel by organised 4x4 excursions that cross the dunes to reach shoreline camps and viewpoints.

The inlet is a natural coastal feature that has long been noted for its ecological and scenic value. It lies in the southern part of Qatar near the coast and the border area, forming one of the country’s most recognisable desert-sea landscapes.

Khor Al Adaid is located in the south-eastern coastal zone of Qatar, roughly on the order of several dozen kilometres from central Doha and close to the country’s southern boundary; access is typically by road and off-road transfer.

  • Access: Accessible only by 4x4 vehicles across sand dunes, the site is known for the point where desert meets the sea and is commonly visited on guided tours.
