How to Get to Khammam#

Khammam is a well-connected town in Telangana with its own railway station and road links to Hyderabad and Vijayawada. Many travelers arrive by train directly into Khammam station or drive/bus from Hyderabad.

By Air

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad (HYD): The nearest major international airport serving Khammam district. From HYD you can take a taxi (≈3-4 hours drive to Khammam, fares vary widely ≈INR 3,000-6,000) or a combination of train/bus (see below).

Vijayawada Airport (VGA) / Vijayawada Junction by rail: Vijayawada is a regional hub; it’s about 2-3 hours by road to Khammam and can be a useful alternative if flight schedules to Hyderabad are inconvenient.

By Train & Bus

Train: Khammam has its own railway station (Khammam Railway Station, code KMT) on the Secunderabad-Vijayawada line with frequent long-distance and regional services. Trains from Hyderabad (Secunderabad/Hyderabad stations) take about 3-4 hours; fares depend on class (sleeper/AC) but are generally affordable.

Bus: Regular state-run and private buses run to Khammam from Hyderabad, Vijayawada and other nearby cities. Journey times and prices vary by service type; standard non-AC buses are the cheapest, while AC Volvo coaches cost more.

How to Get Around Khammam#

Khammam is best reached by rail (Khammam station) or by road from Hyderabad/Vijayawada. For local mobility, trains and buses handle intercity travel, while autos and taxis cover short distances inside town.

  • Train (Khammam Railway Station) (INR 100-900 (depending on class and distance)) - Khammam Railway Station (KMT) is on the Secunderabad-Vijayawada corridor and has frequent services to Hyderabad, Vijayawada and further afield. Trains range from slow express to faster options; book AC classes for comfort on longer journeys.
  • State-run / Private bus (INR 80-400) - Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) and private operators run frequent buses to Khammam from regional hubs. Options include ordinary, deluxe and AC services - check departure points in Hyderabad for correct termini.
  • Taxi / App taxis (INR 500-3,000 (intercity)) - App-based taxis (where available) and local taxis are convenient for last-mile travel and intercity transfers. Fares for longer intercity trips can be high; agree on long-distance fares or use metered/app services where possible.
  • Car (rental) (INR 1,500-3,500/day) - Self-driving or hiring a car with driver is common for regional travel in Telangana and provides flexibility for visiting surrounding villages or industrial areas. Expect fuel and toll costs in addition to rental.
  • Auto-rickshaw / local tuk-tuk (INR 20-150) - Auto-rickshaws are the standard short-distance option within town for cheap, flexible trips. Negotiate fares for non-metered vehicles or insist on the meter where available.
  • Walking - Khammam town centre and markets are compact enough to explore on foot; however, take care when crossing busy roads and use main streets for safety in the evenings.

Where to Stay in Khammam#

Budget
