Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a preserved Civil War battlefield near Marietta, Georgia, that commemorates fighting during the Atlanta Campaign. The park conserves summit positions, earthworks, trenches and other features tied to the June-July 1864 operations.

Interpretive trails and a visitor center guide visitors to key positions including the ridgelines and memorials that mark the June 27, 1864, assault on Kennesaw Mountain. Hiking to the summit provides perspective on the battlefield’s topography and defensive works.

After the battle and through the 20th century the area was preserved as a national battlefield park to interpret the military actions and to provide public recreation. The park lies northwest of downtown Atlanta, immediately west of the city of Marietta in Cobb County, with access from local roadways and parking areas near the visitor center.
