Exploring Katieng & Ka Chhanh Waterfalls#
Katieng Waterfall is a favourite local swimming hole set in shady forest about 9 km southwest of central Ban Lung. At the entrance, a handful of huts sell handicrafts made by local tribal groups. A short path leads to the top of the falls and a staircase down to the pool below, where the water spills over a crescent-shaped precipice into a pool that is good for swimming, safest in the drier season when the flow is gentler. Look for the small statue near the foot of the stairs, which represents a guardian spirit said to reside in the area.
A few kilometres beyond the turn-off is the parking area for Ka Chhanh Waterfall, marked by replica tribal wedding huts. From there, trails lead down to the falls and swimming hole on one side and to a suspension bridge on the other. Smaller than Katieng but with a charm of its own, Ka Chhanh makes a natural pairing, and the two are easily visited together in a single outing.
