Karuma Falls is a waterfall and set of rapids on the Victoria Nile in northern Uganda, near the settlement of Karuma. The site is notable for its river rapids and for being the location of a major hydroelectric development.
The falls and surrounding river corridor offer views of the Nile’s rapids and riverine landscape; the area includes infrastructure related to the hydroelectric project. Road access is available from the main Kampala-Gulu road.
The falls have been both a natural river feature and, in recent decades, a location for development of hydroelectric capacity to supply Uganda’s national grid.
Karuma Falls lies on the Victoria Nile in northern Uganda adjacent to the main highway between Kampala and Gulu, near the town of Karuma.

How to Get to Karuma Falls #
Karuma Falls is located on the Victoria Nile in northern Uganda. From Kampala, travel north via the A109/A104 routes toward Lira and Gulu, then follow the road signs toward Karuma; by road the journey typically takes several hours (expect 5-6 hours depending on conditions). Local minibuses and shared taxis service towns along the route; the final approach is by paved highway to the falls area.
