Kapchagay Reservoir is a large artificial lake on the Ili River in Almaty Region, Kazakhstan, created by the Kapchagay Dam and serving as a regional water storage and recreation area. It is a prominent landscape feature east/northeast of the major city of Almaty.
The reservoir has long shoreline sections developed for beaches, resorts and water-based recreation such as boating and windsurfing, making it a popular weekend and holiday destination for residents of Almaty and surrounding areas. Infrastructure includes marinas and seasonal facilities.
