Kalyan Minaret

The Kalyan Minaret is a prominent medieval tower in the historic centre of Bukhara, Uzbekistan and forms the focal point of the Po-i-Kalyan religious complex. It dates to the early 12th century and is one of the city’s best-known monuments.

The minaret is viewed together with its adjacent mosque and madrasa, creating a compact ensemble of monumental Islamic architecture. The tower’s scale and decoration make it a major photographic and cultural landmark within Bukhara’s old city.

Erected during Karakhanid rule in the 12th century, the tower served both liturgical and defensive purposes and later became integrated into successive Islamic and local political regimes. It survived major historical upheavals and remains a key surviving example of regional minaret architecture.

Situated in central Bukhara within the Po-i-Kalyan complex, the minaret overlooks the old city’s streets and is easily accessed from Bukhara’s historic core.
