Kakatiya Rudreshwara (Ramappa) Temple, Telangana

Kakatiya Rudreshwara Temple, commonly called the Ramappa Temple, is a 13th-century Hindu temple in present-day Telangana, India, inscribed for its outstanding stone carving and architectural techniques. The temple is closely associated with the Kakatiya dynasty and is a principal surviving monument of that regional kingdom.

The temple complex presents richly carved pillars, friezes, and roof beams executed in sandstone and basalt, with detailed figurative sculpture and ornamental motifs. The site is visited for its sculptural program, the temple’s elevated platform and assembly halls, and the distinctive brick roofing technology attributed to the original artisan community.

The temple was constructed during the Kakatiya period in the early 13th century and is attributed to the reign and patronage of the Kakatiya rulers; inscriptions and stylistic evidence link the building to that dynasty’s temple-building program. Over time the complex has been maintained and restored and remains an active place of worship.

The temple stands in the village of Palampet in Telangana, in a rural setting east of the modern city centres of the region. It is accessed via regional roads connecting smaller towns and district centres.
