How to Get to Kai Tak
Kai Tak (Kowloon City District) is reached via Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). The neighbourhood is served by Kai Tak MTR station (Tuen Ma Line) and multiple bus routes; an Airport Express + MTR/taxi connection or direct airport bus/taxi are the usual arrival choices.
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG): The city is served by Hong Kong International Airport on Lantau Island. The Airport Express runs to Hong Kong and Kowloon stations (about 24 minutes to Kowloon Station) - single adult fare to Kowloon Station is HK$115; taxis from the airport to Kowloon/Kai Tak typically take 25-35 minutes and cost around HK$250-300 depending on traffic.
Shenzhen Bao’an Airport (SZX): Some travellers use Shenzhen airport and cross the border into Hong Kong; cross-border coach or train plus MTR are required and total transfer time varies widely (1.5-3 hours) depending on border crossing. Expect taxi and coach combinations to cost the equivalent of HK$200+ once transfers and border fees are included.
Train: Kai Tak is served by Kai Tak station on the MTR Tuen Ma Line. From Kowloon or Tsim Sha Tsui you can reach Kai Tak in under 15 minutes by MTR (single-trip fares within urban Kowloon commonly HK$4-12 depending on distance).
Bus: Multiple KMB and Citybus routes serve the Kai Tak and Kowloon City area; typical single-ride fares in Kowloon are HK$4-12 depending on distance and service (many short urban hops are in the lower end of that range). Taxis are abundant and often the fastest option late at night.
How to Get Around Kai Tak #
Kai Tak is well connected by Hong Kong’s public transport. Kai Tak MTR station serves the area; buses, minibuses and metered taxis run frequently. Octopus cards are accepted widely and make transfers simple. The neighbourhood is fairly walkable around the former runway and promenade stretches, but expect to use buses or taxis for destinations farther into Kowloon or across the harbour. Plan for peak-hour crowds on public transport.
