How to Get to Jwaneng
Jwaneng is served by a small local airstrip (Jwaneng Airport) and is reached most easily by road from Gaborone's Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (GBE). If you fly internationally, plan a road transfer from Gaborone; there are also local charters to Jwaneng.
Jwaneng Airport (JWA): Jwaneng has a small airstrip serving charter and private flights; scheduled commercial service is extremely limited. From the airstrip into town expect a short taxi ride of about 5-10 minutes; local taxi fares are typically modest (roughly 20-60 BWP depending on vehicle).
Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (GBE): Gaborone’s international airport is the main gateway for international travellers. Road transfers from Gaborone to Jwaneng take about 1.5-2.5 hours by car; shared shuttles/minibuses commonly run the route and private taxis/transfers are also available. Typical door-to-door travel time is 1.5-2.5 hours; expect private transfers to cost several hundred Botswana pula (price varies; get a quote in advance).
Train: There is no regular long-distance passenger rail service directly into Jwaneng. The nearest passenger rail connections are at Gaborone (Botswana Railways); if arriving by train you would transfer in Gaborone and continue to Jwaneng by road.
Bus: Intercity minibuses (commonly called kombis) and scheduled coach services link Gaborone and other regional towns with Jwaneng. Travel time from Gaborone by road is typically 1.5-2.5 hours depending on service and stops; fares for minibuses are generally inexpensive (ask locally for current fares) and private shuttle companies publish fixed prices - book ahead during busy periods.
