How to Get to Moshupa#

Moshupa is a small town in southern Botswana best reached by road from Gaborone (Sir Seretse Khama International Airport) or by regional bus services. There is no direct commercial passenger rail service to town.

By Air

Sir Seretse Khama International Airport, Gaborone (GBE): Gaborone’s airport is the main international gateway for southern Botswana. From Gaborone to Moshupa is roughly a 60-90 minute drive depending on route; taxis and car hire are the usual options. Shared or private transfers are common.

Maun (MUB) / Ghanzi (no major regular service): Other regional airfields in Botswana serve different parts of the country but are not practical for reaching Moshupa; overland travel from Gaborone is the standard approach.

By Train & Bus

Train: Botswana Railways does not provide convenient passenger services directly to Moshupa for most visitors; freight lines exist in the region.

Bus: Intercity buses and minibus taxis connect Moshupa with Gaborone and other towns. Minibuses depart regularly from regional terminals; fares are economical and travel time to Gaborone is typically around 1-2 hours depending on stops.

How to Get Around Moshupa#

The town is most easily navigated by car, taxi or minibuses. For regional travel, minibuses are cheapest but private transfers or car hire give better comfort and schedule control.

  • Minibus taxi / Intercity bus (Low (local fares)) - Minibus taxis are the backbone of intercity travel in Botswana - frequent and inexpensive but can be crowded. Buses run between Gaborone and Moshupa from regional terminals; expect multiple stops and basic comfort.
  • Private taxi / transfer (Moderate) - Private taxis or pre‑booked transfers are faster and more comfortable for door‑to‑door travel from Gaborone. Useful for groups or when you have luggage.
  • Car hire (Varies (rental/day)) - Hiring a car from Gaborone is the most flexible way to visit Moshupa and surrounding villages. Roads between major towns are generally in good condition; a 2WD is usually sufficient on main routes.
  • Local taxi (Low to moderate) - In‑town taxis handle short trips to markets, clinics and nearby villages; negotiate fares or check for meters where available. Availability may be limited in off hours.
  • Bicycle / motorbike - Bicycles and motorbikes are used for short local journeys and farm access; distances between villages can be lengthy so choose based on fitness and road conditions.
  • Walking - Moshupa’s centre is compact and walkable for daily errands and visiting local markets. For neighbouring communities or scenic spots you’ll need motorised transport.
