Jurong Bird Park
Park Large aviary park showcasing diverse bird species
Jurong Bird Park in western Singapore was a large aviary complex known for walk-through enclosures, bird shows and conservation exhibits, long popular with families and school groups.
Jurong Bird Park was a large bird park in the Jurong area of Singapore that opened in 1971 and operated for decades as a specialist avian collection and visitor attraction. It was one of the major zoological facilities in Singapore until its operations were consolidated with other parks in the Mandai redevelopment.
The park featured a range of large aviaries, walk-in free-flight enclosures and specialist exhibits for species such as penguins, hornbills and lorikeets. Exhibits combined close-up viewing galleries, elevated walkways and demonstration spaces used for feeding displays and educational programs.
Established in 1971, Jurong Bird Park developed into a long-running public attraction and education centre focused on birds and conservation. In the early 2020s the park’s collection and many of its functions were moved to the new Bird Paradise facility in Mandai as part of a wider reorganisation of Singapore’s wildlife parks; the original Jurong site closed in 2023.
The park sat in the Jurong district of western Singapore, accessible from the city by road and public transport. The new Mandai facility that received much of Jurong’s collection lies north of the city in the Mandai nature precinct.
