Jog Falls is a high waterfall on the Sharavathi River in the state of Karnataka, India, famed for its single-stage plunge and seasonal flow. The falls are formed where the river drops over the Western Ghats escarpment and create a dramatic vertical fall.
The stream splits into four separate cascades known as Raja, Rani, Rocket and Roarer that together make up the Jog Falls complex; during peak flow the combined volume and spray are considerable. The site is a popular viewpoint and has developed visitor facilities and lookout points on the surrounding cliffs.
The falls are natural and their flow varies strongly with the monsoon - heaviest flows occur during and shortly after the southwest monsoon months. Jog Falls sits near the town of Sagara in central Karnataka, on the western edge of the Deccan plateau and the Western Ghats range.
- Height: The total vertical drop is about 253 metres, making Jog Falls one of India's highest plunge waterfalls and the tallest in Karnataka.
What to See #
- Four Drops (Raja, Rani, Rocket, Roarer): The waterfall is formed by the Sharavathi River and splits into four distinct falls known locally as Raja, Rani, Rocket and Roarer, which plunge over a rocky escarpment.

Tips for Visiting Jog Falls #
- Visit Jog Falls in and immediately after the monsoon (typically August-October) to see the falls at their fullest - flow drops substantially outside the post-monsoon window.
- Go early in the morning to catch the falls shrouded in mist and to avoid the larger day crowds that arrive later; parking and the main viewing platform are much quieter at first light.
- Use the main roadside car park and walk to the officially maintained viewpoints rather than trying unmarked tracks - the site has several official platforms offering different perspectives, so check the local signage for the nearest viewpoint to your parking spot.
