How to Get to Jixi
Jixi is served by Jixi Xingkaihu Airport (JXA) for regional flights and by Jixi Railway Station (鸡西站) for conventional rail. Most visitors arrive either by a regional flight into JXA or by train/coach from larger Heilongjiang cities such as Mudanjiang and Harbin.
Jixi Xingkaihu Airport (JXA): Jixi’s local airport handles domestic flights to regional hubs. From the airport to Jixi city centre you can take the airport shuttle bus (机场大巴) - typically ¥10-25 and about 40-60 minutes depending on traffic - or a taxi (around ¥60-120, 30-40 minutes). Taxis are the fastest option; check flight and shuttle schedules in advance as services can be limited.
Harbin Taiping International Airport (HRB): For international or a wider choice of flights, Harbin Taiping is the nearest major airport. From Harbin you can reach Jixi by conventional train (see train card) or by long-distance coach; expect about 4-6 hours and fares generally in the ¥60-160 range depending on vehicle and service.
Train: The main rail hub is Jixi Railway Station (鸡西站). Conventional passenger trains connect to regional cities such as Mudanjiang and Harbin; typical journeys are Mudanjiang ~1.5-3 hours (¥20-60) and Harbin ~4-6 hours (¥60-150) depending on train type. Tickets are sold on China Railway’s 12306 site/app and at the station; services are mostly conventional (not high-speed) so allow extra time.
Bus: Long-distance coaches depart from Jixi Long-distance Bus Station (鸡西长途客运站) and other city coach hubs. Buses run to nearby cities - Mudanjiang, Hegang, Shuangyashan and Harbin - with travel times roughly 1.5-6 hours and fares typically ¥30-160 depending on distance and coach class. Coach schedules change seasonally; buy tickets at the station or from reputable ticket counters.
How to Get Around Jixi
Jixi is easiest to navigate by taxi/DiDi for convenience and by regional bus or train for intercity travel. Central areas are walkable; local buses are very cheap but can be infrequent and signage is mainly in Chinese, so taxis are often the fastest practical option.
- Public Bus (1-3 CNY) - Jixi's local bus network covers the city and nearby suburbs. Fares are low but services can be infrequent outside peak hours; signage and announcements are usually only in Chinese so have your destination written in Chinese. Buses are the cheapest way to get around central and residential districts.
- DiDi & Taxis (6-80 CNY) - Taxis are plentiful in the urban area and are the most convenient way to get door-to-door quickly. Expect a typical short ride in the city to cost around ¥10-40; airport transfers are more (see airport card). DiDi operates in many Chinese cities and can be useful for fixed-price bookings, though coverage may be patchier in rural outskirts.
- Regional Train (20-150 CNY) - Regional rail from Jixi Railway Station links the city to Mudanjiang, Harbin and neighbouring prefectures. Trains are generally conventional (hard/soft seats, and occasional sleepers on longer runs); buy tickets via 12306 or at the station. Trains are reliable for intercity travel but journeys can take several hours compared with faster services elsewhere.
- Intercity Coach (30-160 CNY) - Long-distance coaches depart from the main coach stations and offer frequent services to nearby cities. Coaches are a good alternative if train schedules don't match your plans; comfort and travel time vary by operator, so choose reputable carriers and allow extra time for winter road conditions.
- Bicycles & E-bikes (0.5-5 CNY) - Shared bikes and electric bikes are sometimes available for short hops in the centre; in practice availability can be inconsistent. E-bikes are a common local transport mode for short distances - they are cheap and handy but watch for traffic and limited dedicated lanes.
- Car hire & Driving (200-400 CNY/day) - Hiring a car gives flexibility for exploring the wider Heilongjiang region, especially rural areas not well served by public transport. Expect daily rental rates from roughly ¥200-400 depending on vehicle and season; driving in winter requires experience with icy roads and appropriate tyres.
- Walking - The central parts of Jixi are compact and walkable for short visits, markets and local eateries. Pavements and crossings vary in quality, so wear comfortable shoes and pay attention when crossing busy roads.
