Jebel ech Chambi is the highest mountain in Tunisia, with a summit at about 1,544 metres, located in the Kasserine Governorate. It is the central feature of a protected landscape and is noted as Tunisia’s highest terrestrial point.
Trails climb through pine and oak woodlands and limestone terrain; the ridge and summit attract hikers and naturalists interested in the mountain’s biodiversity and geology. The area contains caves and steep slopes rather than developed visitor facilities.
The massif is a natural feature that has been used traditionally by local communities; systematic archaeological and ecological attention increased in the 20th century. The mountain area was designated as a national park and protected area to conserve its habitats and species.
